I want people to recognise my talent based on my current performance and skills. I don't know about the prodigies mentality, but I reckon if I were one (which I'm not), I wouldn't want to continue to bask in my glorious past. but then there are still some prodigies who went on to become superstars in the industry, some of whom were highlighted in their video on reacting to world-class soloists' childhood videos. Perhaps some of them really got burnt out from the many 40-hr a day practice sessions, but some could be that they found their passion in life somewhere else. In one of their videos they were answering some questions about studying in music university, not everyone who went through the music degree ends up doing something about music in their lives. I guess a lot of it depends on the individual. Maybe some of you are prodigies? Could you share some thoughts on this issue too, from your perspective? I am just curious about this topic in social perspective. Please share your thoughts, I am really interested in your opinions and points of view.Ī small disclaimer: by no means I want to disrespect young musicians, I think they're humble and hardworking and just absolutely awesome. Tell me, why are there so many prodigies, but we don't really hear about them when they grow up? Is it because there aren't enough places in the music industry? Or because they burn up after years of practicing? How big role do social media play in it? And what about parents of prodigies, how big role they have in their success? How long can you be a prodigy? (I heard in the interview (?) with Hilary Hahn that she suddenly stopped being a prodigy in the publicity opinion when she turned 30)Īnd THE BIG QUESTION - what role does talent play in their success. I'm not a musician (just freshly graduated sociology student!) so I'm not really a member of the classical music world, but I love music and everything social in it. Hi everyone! So, the Menuhin Competition ended some time ago and I have been wondering about this whole prodigy-thing.
